Heath Mabeus, 37, was arrested by Colonie Police at his Clifton Park residence on Saturday, March 15, in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman in Colonie the day before.
Mabeus struck 58-year-old Migdalia Aulet as she crossed Wolf Road near Beltrone Drive at around 6:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, Colonie Police said. He allegedly then fled the scene without stopping or offering the woman aid.
Aulet, of Schenectady, was gravely injured and died at the scene, according to police.
Following an investigation, officers located Mabeus and his vehicle at his Clifton Park home. He was arrested without incident on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a felony.
Mabeus was arraigned in Colonie Town Court and was released on his own recognizance.
Colonie Police thanked the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in locating Mabeus.
“We would also like to thank the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center for their support which played a pivotal role in solving this case,” the agency said on Facebook. “The extraordinary efforts of all involved helped us provide the Aulet family the answers they deserve. “
Additional details about Aulet’s life were not immediately available. Loved ones are invited to share a statement, funeral details, and/or photos by emailing mmashburn@dailyvoice.com.
